The news of US nuclear submarines docking in South Korean ports hit the news in North Korea, causing worries among the public about nuclear war. The DPRK Rodong Party stepped up to quell the worries.

Freedom Chosun source in Pyongyang relayed that the Rodong Party Propaganda Department distributed 6-page lecture material, entitled, “US Nuclear Threat against our republic is nothing but a foolish psychological ploy,” to various Party branches and labor organizations.

The lecture stated, “The US threat against our republic is no longer useful because it is a meaningless and useless psychological ploy. Not only the US but the entire world knows this.” Further, “South Korea brought the US nuclear submarines to worsen the situation in East Asia and provoke the neighboring countries into isolating and pressuring our republic. It is a plot by the US and South Korea to build international hostility against DPRK.”

The Party Propaganda Department stated, “There are many mistaken views and rumors regarding the republic’s nuclear policy due to the enemy’s psychological plot,” and requested the Party and labor organizations to correct the situation.

The DPRK’s “Nuclear weapons political views” is as follows:

(Only nuclear weapons can deter the nuclear threat. If one nuclear nation attacks another nuclear nation, the defensive nation will respond in kind with its own nuclear weapon, resulting in the mutual destruction of both nations. Nuclear nations must pursue peaceful coexistence to avoid imbalance in fear. Of course, threats of conventional aggression remain, but nuclear nations have not engaged in wars in history. A nuclear weapon is a strange weapon that works against non-nuclear nations.)

Regarding the public’s reaction to the Party’s initiative, the source explained, “Actually, the people are not interested in the nukes at all. The nukes don’t provide us with food, so why should we care? I don’t care about nukes coming into South Korea.”
